How to Build Your Coaching Business Without Quitting Your 9–5

When I first started feeding this passion for wanting more… more impact, more freedom, I stepped into the world of direct sales.

Back then, the loudest message I heard was: “Quit your job, you’ll go faster.”

It was everywhere… at meetings, trainings, conventions. And honestly, it made me second-guess myself. Because while that might have been true for some, it just wasn’t my story.

At the time, I was already a six-figure earner in my engineering career. Walking away from that and hoping direct sales could immediately replace it? I couldn’t break that belief barrier. Believe me, I tried.

Yes, I was achieving big things. I earned two free cars in 90 days, earned a free trip to the Bahamas, built a team of over 100, but still, that income wasn’t replacing what I had built in my career.

So instead of asking, “How do I quit my job?”
I asked, “How can I do both?”

And once I started figuring out how to actually balance both, people started asking me how I was doing it. Back then, I was the productivity and self-care coach and that’s where this framework really began. Back in 2018, when I sat down and asked myself: How am I really making this work with a demanding career, a family, and a business? Did I mention I never had childcare?

That’s when I started creating the system I still use (and now teach) today. Here’s how it works…

Step 1: Audit Your Day

Grab a sheet of paper and draw a simple grid. Days of the week across the top, hours of the day down the left side.

Now fill in your non-negotiables:

  • Your work hours

  • Sleep

  • Family routines

  • Getting ready, commuting, meals

  • Spiritual practices

These are constants, and they come first.

Step 2: Add in Breathing Room

This is where I do things differently. Before you add “business,” I want you to schedule your leisure.

Yes, you read that right…leisure first.

Because I believe your schedule should feel in alignment, not like a prison. And if you don’t intentionally make time for yourself, you’ll start resenting the very business you’re trying to build.

Step 3: Spot the White Space

Now, take a step back and look at your grid.

The white space you see? That’s your opportunity.

Most of my clients discover at least four hours a week they didn’t even realize they had. And more often than not, it’s because we spend so much time thinking about doing things instead of actually doing them.

Step 4: Decide, Delegate, Delete

If your grid feels packed and there’s no white space at all, that’s when my 3-D Method comes in:

  • Decide → what’s essential to keep

  • Delegate → what someone else could do

  • Delete → what doesn’t serve you right now (maybe not forever, but in this season)

This is how you make room for your business without tipping into overwhelm.

Why This Matters

Once you go through this exercise, your vision finally gets a seat on your calendar.

Not in your head. Not “someday.” But in real time, with real hours.

And that’s the shift. That’s how you honor your career and grow your business in harmony.

Your Next Step

If this resonated with you, I created a free resource called The 4 Hours to 4K Framework.

Inside, I show you exactly how to use those intentional hours to create an additional income stream through coaching…without hustle or burnout. Did I mention there’s a video walkthrough included?
